The gentleman in the image is Voltaire, who for a time graced the court of Frederick II of Prussia, known as Frederick the Great. King Fred loved to talk about the universe and everything at the end of a day’s work. He also used the salons of Berlin to get feedback in the development of public policy.

Fred would only talk in French; he regarded German as barbaric. Here we’ll use English.

The thread will be a stoush-free zone. The Comments Policy says:

The aim [of this site] is to provide a venue for people to contribute and to engage in a civil and respectful manner.

Alice Springs – Simpson’s Desert odyssey progress

Where we are depends on whether we needed to extra day in the schedule for the desert crossing. If we made it across (praise the Lord!) we could be travelling from Birdsville to Windorah or Windorah to Emerald.

  1. So now we are all supposed to be part of Abbott’s “Team Australia”. A narrowly defined Team Australia that reflects an English emigrants view of what “People like Him” think Australia should be like.
Where to we go to make sure we aren’t included on his team by default?

  2. Binge watching Justified. Its not quite genius The Sopranos or Breaking Bad quality but it is very good.
Had my eye lasered Wednesday. Procedure a complete success. Still getting used to seeing everything out of two eyes.

  3. This picture is for people who don’t want to be a part of Abbott’s (Murdoch’s?) team Australia.
    The church message board said:

Does belonging to ‘Team Australia’ mean we blindly accept everything our government tells us? I worry it might be an invitation to accept vague new anti-terror laws, the very possible trashing of our Great Barrier Reef and the renewable energy sector, a continued focus on fossil fuels with no articulated direction on climate change, secrecy and a lack of transparency around a ‘military operation’, wasting billions of dollars to abuse and incarcerate desperate nationless men, women and children, or worse hand them over to third world countries, an outrageously excessive and unaffordable paid parental leave scheme, a budget that clearly widens the gap between the rich and the poor with cuts to disability, the aged, the unemployed, health and education, and numerous, embarrassingly arrogant statements regarding foreign policy…..

I totally support a cohesive Australia, however this undefined, divisive, nationalistic notion makes me feel very uneasy, and I have to say, I cringe at the term. I shudder to think how we must appear to the rest of the world right now.

We strive to belong to ‘Team Humanity’, a place where decency, generosity of spirit and open heartedness resides. We live in constant hope.
