Earth Overshoot Day 2019

Earth Overshoot Day for 2019 fell on Monday the 29th of July this year.  It is the calculated illustrative calendar date on which humanity’s resource consumption for the year exceeds Earth’s capacity to regenerate those resources that year.

I went to the local church where they rang the bell in alarm and sorrow to note this sorry day that has occurred so soon this year.

The ringing of the bell made me wonder how long it will take before there is no more sickness and sorrow because there is no-one left to be sick or sorrowful.

The ringing of the bell made me wonder how long it will take before there is no-one left who can bring themselves to feel joyful.

In my darkest moment I wondered whether the last person to die has already been born.
